Parliament Approves Agenda of Three Day Session

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At the meeting of the Armenian National Assembly November 8 Speaker of the Parliament Armen Khachatrian introduced to the Parliament five new Parliament members registered by the decision of the Central Electoral Commission of November 5.

The meeting approved the agenda of the three-day session. According to the agenda–the Parliament will discuss the ratification of 13 international agreemen’s–bills on "The vegetable kingdom,"Standardization,"Trademarks," and "Geographic names." The Parliament will also elect chairmen of the parliamentary committees for state and legal issues and for foreign relations.

By a majority vote–the Parliament also decided to put on the agenda a number of bills–including a bill drafted by Victor Dallakian. His bill allows amendmen’s to be made on the law on "The universal military obligation." Stressing the importance of the Parliament’s discussion of the bill–the author pointed out that the bill contains an amendment stipulating that the military not draft only sons of single mothers. According to Dallakian such an amendment will not affect the army–but will be of psychological importance to the nation.

The Parliament decided to postpone the discussion of the ratification of agreemen’s between Armenia and the US–the hearing of the annual report of the Prosecutor General and the discussion of amendmen’s to the Law on Education.
