Kocharian Leads Delegation to Istanbul

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A delegation headed by President Robert Kocharian left Wednesday morning for Istanbul to take part in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s summit of head of states.

The delegation includes Armenia’s foreign minister Vartan Oskanian and Armenia’s representative to the OSCE Jivan Tabibian.

The presidential airplane landed at Istanbul’s International airport at 12:30 p.m.–following which Kocharian and others took part in an unofficial meeting of the Black Sea Economic Council heads of states.

At the conference Kocharian met with Turkish president Suleyman Demirel–Greek prime minister Costas Simitis–Azeri president Haydar Aliyev and Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze–as well as the leaders of Bulgaria and Romania.

In his remarks at the BSEC conference–Kocharian stressed the importance of the forum in addressing the economic needs of the region and praised efforts to consolidate resources for advancing economic reforms in the area.

He also outlined the importance of holding the BSEC meeting prior to the OSCE summit–since it would provide regional leaders to bring forth concerns in a consolidated manner.

The delegation will return to Yerevan on November 19.
