ARF Urges Participation in Telethon

GLENDALE–The Western US Central Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation issued an announcement urging community participation in the upcoming Thanksgiving Day Armenia Fund Inc. telethon to benefit the construction of a 169 kilometer highway connecting the Karabakh’s northern areas with the south.

Below are excerpts from the translated text of that announcement.

The last decade became a determining and fateful one for the Armenian people. The decades-old dream of attaining an independent state became a reality and the struggle to regain occupied Armenian lands manifested itself through the Karabakh liberation movement.

Today–Armenia is an independent state and Karabakh–through the blood of its people–is a self-governing republic. Azeri totalitarian persecution and pressures to rid the area of Armenia’s are non-existent. The territory is back in the hands of Armenia’s to sow the soil–speak the language and practice the traditions of Christianity–in order to further enrich the Armenian spirit.

Time is of the essence and the moment must be seized. Today–under peaceful conditions–more must be done to strengthen the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic–and through reconstruction efforts–motivate the people of Karabakh and to send a clear message that the land for which lives have been sacrificed is the object of concern for all Armenia’s. The difficulties of life must not force the people of Karabakh to leave their ancestral homes.

To this end–the entire Armenian nation has a huge responsibility to shoulder. All of us must do our utmost for the rebuilding of Karabakh. After respectfully completing the construction of the Goris-Stepanekert highway–today–the Hayastan All Armenia Fund has confidently undertaken the construction of a highway connecting Karabakh’s north to the south–the "Backbone of Karabakh."

On November 25–Thanksgiving Day–let us all take part in the Armenia Fund Telethon. Thousands of miles away from our homeland and in the relative comfort of our existence–as a expression of thanksgiving–let us all remember our homeland and our people. Let’s take part in the valiant mission of rebuilding Karabakh
