Ambassador to Vatican Participates in Science Conference

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Ambassador to the Vatican Armen Sargssian participated in the "Science for man and man for science" conference organized by the Vatican Academy of Sciences November 12-14. Scientists from many countries participated in the Vatican conference.

Sargssian gave a report at the conference. He noted the history and importance of science in Armenia and informed the conference participants of the current level and development of science in the country. In his speech–which was warmly welcomed by the conference participants–the Armenian ambassador made a proposal that–considering Armenia’s contribution to philosophy–astronomy and cosmology–a scientific conference on "Man and cosmos" be organized in Yerevan in 2001. The idea was welcomed by the leading scientists of the Vatican Academy of Sciences. The conference in Yerevan–which is expected to be attended by well-known philosophers–theologians–astronomers–will be dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity in Armenia.
