Council of Justice to Consider Verdicts Nullified By Local Courts

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At its meeting November 19 the Central Electoral Commission discussed the verdicts returned by the courts of the Lori and Kotayk regions on the results of the elections to local government bodies held on October 24. Reporter Ashot Sargssian pointed out that the courts nullified the elections of the heads of three village communities in these regions. According to the reporter–the verdicts returned by the courts have no legal grounds and testify to the fact that judges returned the verdicts without carefully studying the Election Code.

All but one of the CEC members present at the meeting shared Sargssian’s opinion. According to the Election Code–the verdicts returned by the courts on the results of elections can not be appealed. Thus the CEC decided to submit the afore-mentioned facts to the Council of Justice.
