Presentation OfJournalism Book Held At YSU

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The presentation of the book entitled "Journalism" was held at the Department of Philology at Yerevan State University on November 30. The book was published by the joint efforts of the Department of Journalism–Yerevan Press Club and the Institute of Open Society under a YPC’s program promoting "high-quality mass media." Lecturers–students–post-graduate students and journalists were involved in gathering material for the book.

The book contains studies of journalism theory and history–Armenian and foreign mass media–and Armenian medieval media. Students from the Department of Journalism and other institutes received copies of the book.

"It is no secret that journalism as a science needs to be studied in Armenia. The first steps are being taken–such as translations–and we are trying to contribute to this process as much as possible," Acting Dean of the Department of Journalism Garnik Ananian said. The Department of Journalism intends to publish other volumes of the book–which is why–according to Ananian–"our ‘daring’ have call this book ‘Volume One’."

Yerevan State University jointly with the Institute of Open Society and YPC is implementing a program of improving the University curricula–providing students with text-books and scientific literature and creating conditions for the best students to continue their studies in European and American higher schools.
