Council of Europe Officials Say Armenia is Ready to Join PACE

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian–who is on a working visit to Strasbourg–held meetings January 26 with Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe–Lord Russell Johnston–CE Secretary General Walter Shrimmer–Chairman of the PACE Political Committee Terry Davis–Rapporteur on Armenia Demetrio Volcic–and other CE officials.

The discussions focused on the process of Armenia’s admission to PACE. The sides also discussed the current state of Armenia-CE relations and prospects for their development. Minister Oskanian presented the current stage of the Karabakh settlement process and the domestic political situation in Armenia. Regional cooperation was also discussed.

The PACE officials stated that the process of Armenia’s admission to this organization has reached its logical conclusion. Thus–a list of commitmen’s Armenia is to assume has already been presented to the country. The Rapporteur Volcic is to present them at the meeting of the PACE Political Committee on January 27.
