Ara Guler Named “Photographer of Century”

ISTANBUL (Marmara)–During a reception Wednesday at Istanbul’s Tuyab exhibition center–Turkish-Armenian artist Ara Guler was awarded the "Photographer of Century" prize.

Guler’s work was exhibited during the reception.

As part of the awards ceremony–director of the Photography Magazine in Turkey–Nadir Dede said that Guler was the first and only photographer who introduced and implemented the art of photography in Turkey.

Before presenting Guler with the award–Dede urged the younger generation to follow in Guler’s footsteps.

In his remarks–Guler thanked all for the award. Following the ceremony–Guler’s works were exhibited–reflecting the artists life and art.

In conclusion–Guler met with the local press–and held a separate talk with young photographers.

In his presentation to the youth–Guler stressed the current trends in photography–especially outlining the introduction of digital technology and the advances that technology has brought to photography.
