Former Karabakh Army Commander Assistant Arrested

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Armen Abgarian–former assistant commander of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army–was arrested in Stepanakert on February 2. Abgarian–who is well-known by his nickname Amulya–has until recently been manager of the "Tsitsernak" company.

The Karabakh Prosecutor’s Office had initiated criminal proceedings in connection with an illegal transaction.

A $500,000 batch of meat headed for the Karabakh Army was imported into the country–but the meat never reached the consignee.

The Karabakh Prosecutor’s Office has refrained from any comment.

Abgarian’s arrest is extraordinary in Karabakh. As assistant to former commander of the Karabakh Army Samvel Babayan–he was considered a person of almost limitless immunity.
