Genetics Research Center Opens in Yerevan

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A Medical Genetics Center under the National Academy of Sciences opened recently in Yerevan with the help of French Armenian benefactors and the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. The staff of the center has been trained in Paris.

Tamara Sargissian–the director of the center–said the facility would specialize in diagnosing a number of diseases–especially Mediterranean disease.

She said the disease may be diagnosed before the clinical symptoms and kidney complications related to the illness surface.

Research in the center will also concentrate on tumor and contagious diseases–the congenital diseases–disorders of sexual and physical growth–early forms of mental illness.
