Armenicum Inventor Defends A Thesis for PhD

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–As far as Noyan Tapan is informed–the inventor of "Armenicum"–a medicine designed to treat AIDS–defended a thesis for a Doctor’s degree last fall before a specialized scientific council in Yerevan. The council is said to have met behind closed doors. The competitor for a Ph.D. degree defended his thesis in chemistry.

A Noyan Tapan correspondent asked Chairperson of the High Attestation Commission Lilit Arzoumanian either to confirm or deny this information. However–the official declined to comment–saying that she was not entitled to provide information on theses defended behind closed doors. These are isolated cases when theses are defended in camera.

Similar procedures are requested by a relevant specialized scientific council in accordance with the country’s legislation. In such cases the High Attestation Commission decides whether to convene a special meeting inviting specialists with access to relevant data or to assign a special council.
