Armenian Nuclear Station to Run Until 2010

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Armenian nuclear power station is scheduled to operate until 2010–announced Vardan Movsisian–chairman of Energy Commission during parliamentary debates on the 2000 draft budget.

Earlier–the European Union demanded that the station be closed in 2004 in exchange of an annual 10 million Euro to be provided for increasing the station’s safety.

As a result of active negotiations with the EU–an amendment was incorporated stipulating that the station may be closed provided that new energy generating capacities–equal to that of the station–be created.
