Genocide Memorial Unveiled in Athens

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A 1915 Genocide Memorial was ceremonially inaugurated in the Greek capital Athens Sunday. On the same day one of the capital squares was named after Armenia.

The ceremonies were organized upon the initiative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Kokinia Chapter and the Armenian Rights Council of the Ramkavar Party–following a decision by the Athens District Mayor and the City Council.

Attending the ceremony were Athens District Mayor Rendi–members of the Greek parliament–Armenian embassy officials–representatives of community organizations–and numerous local Armenia’s–Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said.

The Greek-Armenian community representatives praised Greek officials for agreeing to change the square name and for taking an active role in the inauguration of the Armenian Genocide monument.
