YEREVAN (Armenpress)–"Armenian-Russian military cooperation is anchored to 1997 August 28 Agreement on Friendship–Cooperation and Mutual Assistance–signed by the leaders of the two states," Armenia’s defense minister Serge Sarkisian told Interfax. "As to the multilateral cooperation–it is based on the CIS Collective Security Agreement," he said.
Sarkisian is scheduled to leave for Moscow on Sunday to participate in the CIS defense ministers’ council sitting. Earlier Sarkisian and his Russian counterpart Igor Sergeyev met in Brussels where they took part in the NATO defense ministers session.
"Both Russia’s new leadership and Armenian key officials had numerous reasons to express their visions concerning further deepening and enriching Armenian-Russian strategic cooperation. Though this cooperation is already on a high level–however–there is a big potential and prospects for its further development. We have to boost development speed and to raise its efficiency," noted defense minister Sarkisian.
