Lawyer Says Oct. 27 Assassins Were Hired

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The preliminary investigation of the Oct. 27 case will be complete in a couple of days–Artashes Pahlavuni–the former lawyer of the principal defendant Nairi Hunanian–announced in an interview. He expressed his opinion on the case. He believes the terrorist group to have been hired by someone. Pahlavuni declined to comment on his former client having retracted his previous testimony–to which he claimed the information was extracted from him through beating and torture.

Pahlavuni resigned as Hunanian’s counsel on June 16 by mutual consent. He said he acted according to the original scheme agreed with Hunanian so that he would not have to continue to defend after the preliminary investigation was over. Another lawyer–Ara Zakarian–will take over the counsel’s functions.

Another defendant–Karen Hunanian’s counsel Kima Melkonian will also resign by mutual consent. The name of Karen Hunanian’s new lawyer will be announced soon
