A Film About Armenian Genocide to Be Shot

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An independent Syunik film studio in the Armenian town of Kapan has got down to preparatory work ahead of the shooting of the first film–dedicated to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide under the working name "1915". The film is directed by well-known Armenian directors Vigen Chaldrian and Khachik Asrian.

Several film studios–among them ArmenFilm–MosFilm and the French Boomerang productions have pledged to assist in shooting the film by providing the necessary technical means.

The overall cost of production is estimated at 200 million Armenian Drams. The directors hope to raise part of the money through donations–the other part is expected to come from the government–businessmen–as well as local authorities in the province of Syunik.

At the moment nearly 4 million Drams have been raised–which is enough to start the preliminary work. They plan to finish the film in 2002.
