ANKARA (Noyan Tapan)–The Turkish foreign ministry Thursday issued an announcement explaining a recent expulsion of a delegation of Armenia’s from Gumri who traveled to Kars at the invitation of the region’s governor to take part in a seminar.
Deputy foreign ministry spokesperson Husein Dirioz announced that Turkey has always intended to have neighborly relations with Armenia–however until today diplomatic relations with Armenia have not been established.
"Despite numerous warnings by Turkey–Armenia continues to create enmity through revising of history. Positive steps also have not been taken in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict–as a result of which Turkey-Armenia relations have not been officially established," said the spokesperson.
"In this regard–the participation of the delegation from Armenia in the Kars seminar was deemed improper–about which the foreign ministry has informed the interior ministry of Turkey," concluded the announcement.
The Armenian delegation was escorted to the border and sent back to Armenia.
