STEPANAKERT (Armenpress)–The trial of the former commander of the Nagorno-Karabakh Army and 15 others accused of plotting the failed assassination of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic president Arkady Ghoukassian on March 22–has been scheduled to begin on September 18 in Stepanakert–Karabakh prosecutors announced Friday.
Babayan’s attorney Judeks Shakarian told Armenpress that the decision was rendered during a hearing Wednesday–to which he was not invited.
Shakarian added that defense petitions to move the trial from Stepanakert to Yerevan has been rejected in defense’s absentia.
The defense attorney said that Karabakh’s criminal code provided for him to bring the matter up again during the trial. Shakarian said he is preparing a motion to move the trial.
