SYDNEY–French-Armenian gymnast Benjamin Varonian won a silver medal in Monday’s gymnastic competitions at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The win was in the horizontal bar competition–in which Varonian was ranked second due to a slight edge by gold medal winner–Russia’s Aleksei Nemov.
Over the weekend–weightlifting competitions did not yield the winning results for Armenian competing in the Games.
Armenia’s Gagik Khachatrian was ranked fifth in the 85 kilogram competition–while Serko Chakhoyan–competing for Australia was ranked sixth in the same division.
On Sunday–Aleksan Karapetian–again competing for Australia was ranked 10th in the 94 kilogram division–while Armenia’s Hakop Piloyan dropped out due to an injury.
