Stranger Explodes Hand Grenade at ARS Office

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An unknown man entered the Yerevan Office of the Armenian Relief Society–Wednesday and exploded a hand grenade. The explosion damaged the building. The man managed to escape.

Karine Muradian–a member of the ARS regional board of Armenia told Noyan Tapan that on Tuesday a young man visited the office. He introduced himself as an azatamartik (freedom-fighter)–but didn’t name himself. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that no one helped him and his companions-in-arms who are in a desperate state now. According to Muradian–the office employees tried to explain mildly and intelligibly to the young man that the ARS used to render assistance to participants in military operations and continues to do so. Muradian said that the man had left the office absolutely calm–saying to staff members that he would visit them the following day.

But–Tuesday the man entered the office–immediately pulled the pin of the grenade and warning the staff that his intentions were serious–told them to go to the kitchen. Thereafter–he threw the grenade into the room and ran away. The criminal managed to escape.

An investigation is on–and the criminal’s portrait is being drawn on the basis of eye-witness accounts.

Ironically–the incident took place 20-30 steps from the Ministry of National Security of Armenia.
