Italy Parliament to Debate Genocide

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Italian parliament is due to start its debate on the Armenian Genocide resolution on November 16-17.

One hundred and forty parliament members endorsed the genocide bill by signing a petition.

The issue was first raised by the leader of the North League Jeancarlo Pagliarri in 1998. According to the Turkish Turkiye daily–the genocide resolution is raised ahead of the 2001 budget parliamentary debates which it may result in favor of the Armenia’s.

Three resolutions will be submitted to the Parliament: the first one unconditionally recognizes the Armenian Genocide; the second calls for forming an international group of historians to study the issue; the third is an interim variant – the Genocide will be recognized with reservations–and the final recognition will be made by expert opinion of historians.
