President Kocharian Leaves for Turkmen’stan

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An Armenian delegation–led by president Robert Kocharian–left for a one-day official visit to Turkmen’stan. Interior–energy–finance and economy ministers–as well as the minister for coordination of industrial infrastructures–and a group of Armenian businessmen will accompany the President.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkmen’stan were established in 1992 and thus far 48 joint documen’s–related to cooperation in the spheres of economy–finance–trade–legal realm–culture and education have been signed by the two governmen’s.

President Kocharian is planned to have a meeting with Turkmen’stan president Saparmurad Niyazov to be followed by negotiations in an enlarged format. The main focus of the negotiations is expected to be placed on exploring prospects for further development of bilateral relations.

The interior minister of Armenia and his Turkmen counterpart are expected to sign a memorandum on providing mutual legal assistance.

President Kocharian’s itinerary also includes laying a wreath on the monument erected in commemoration of victims of the disastrous 1948 earthquake in the Turkmen capital of Asgabag. President Kocharian will also take part in the official opening of a shop that will be selling Armenia-made brandy. The same day the Armenian delegation will return back to Yerevan.
