Armenian Brazilian Relations Expand

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The formation of a Brazilian-Armenian friendship group in the Brazilian legislature was announced by Armenia’s consul general to Sao Paolo. The move was in response to the creation of a similar group in the Armenian parliament last February.

In appreciation of the Armenian community’s significant contribution to the development of the country–the authorities named various streets–underground stations and squares "Armenia." In a central square in Sao-Paolo a monument was erected in commemoration of the Armenian genocide victims. In turn–the Armenian government has decided to designate a square in Yerevan "Brazil square."

The 40,000 strong Armenian community is well represented in the country’s social structures. Numerous Brazilian diplomats are of Armenian origin and the country’s presidential advisor on economic issues is also an Armenian. The first application for participation in the Second Pan-Armenian Games has come from the Armenia’s of Sao-Paolo. Armenian sportsmen from Rio de Janeiro are also expected to take part in the Games–with a total of about 50 Armenian sportsmen from Brazil arriving in Armenia.

According to the consul–certain Brazilian companies have demonstrated a strong interest towards synthetic rubber produced in Armenia.. The Armenian trade and industry ministry is currently considering a relevant proposal for a Brazilian company. Also–an exhibition of Armenian chemical goods is planned to be held in Sao-Paolo next year. At the initiative of Armenia’s consulate a 14-page information booklet with valuable information on Armenia has been published in Sao-Paolo
