Genocide Resolution on French Parliament’s Agenda for Jan. 18

(Marmara–Noyan Tapan)–The Armenian Genocide resolution will be reviewed by the French Parliament on January 18 according to the decision made by the parliament on December 12. This step was initiated by the UDF Right Wing Political Group.

If the resolution is ratified–it will immediately turn into a law since the French Senate has already passed an Armenian Genocide resolution last November.

The resolution will be on the agenda of the "Parliamentary Window" session where all members of parliament are free to add whatever subject they like to the day’s calendar without government interference. All that is required for the resolution to be passed is a majority vote. Taking this into consideration–many political circles believe the resolution will be passed on January 18.

Turkish newspapers have reported that the Armenian community’s vote in the March elections is a significant factor in the Parliament’s decision to consider the resolution–especially added pressure from Ramone Barr who is a candidate for Lyonne city mayor where there is a sizable Armenian community.
