Sos Sarkissian Honored with St. Sahag St. Mesrob Medal

ECHMIADZIN (Noyan Tapan)–A ceremony honoring the multi-talented and renowned artist Sos Sarkissian took place Sunday–December 24–at the Catholicos’ quarters in Echmiadzin. His Holiness Karekin II awarded Sarkissian the Armenian Apostolic Church’s St. Sahag-St. Mesrob medal–commemorating Sarkissian’s extraordinary 70-year career in the arts.

"We have a great legacy to leave our future generations. You foster that legacy–the most important part of which is patriotism and love of country–which you bring out and champion in our people and our rich culture" said Araratian Diocese locum tenets Bishop Navasart Gjoyan.

Sarkissian accepted the honor emotionally and with great pride stating that the St. Sahag-St. Mesrob medal is the highest honor he has ever been awarded.

Those present at the ceremony which included government officials–cultural figures and academics–praised the actions of the Church in honoring Sarkissian–commending the Church’s ever-present dedication to Armenian culture.
