Fire Destroys Roof of Opera House .

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A fire broke out at the Armenian National Opera House at exactly 7:10 a.m. on December 27. According to officials–the fire destroyed about 1,700 square meters of the roof. Police officers guarding the opera building from the outside were the first to notice the fire and inform firefighters. Eighteen firetrucks showed up at the scene five minutes after–and the fire was completely put out two hours later.

Officials have refrained from expressing opinions about what might have caused the fire. A senior fire brigade official said the results of the investigation would be clear in 10 to 15 days. A city council official said the fire would not hinder the New Year’s and Christmas s celebrations originally planned to be held in the Opera building
