YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s connection with the Internet was cut off at approximately 9:00 a.m.–December 28. Technical Director of Arminco Grigor Sagian said the central computers responsible for communication were subjected to the so-called DDoS attack.
A DDoS attack is made by a hacker using a special program. The hacker finds a poorly protected server connected to the Internet and causes it to present meaningless information to any computer address. In this case–over 50 computers from different countries were involved in the attack by sending meaningless information to Arminco’s address. The culprit of this crime is impossible to distinguish.
Sagian said the company took certain measures–which allowed it to partially restore the information exchange. These measures are temporary–as domestic users can get in touch with foreign addresses–but it is extremely difficult to reach Armenia from other countries.
