Kocharian Leaves for CIS Summit in Minsk

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian will leave for the Belarus capital Minsk today to take part in a recurrent summit of the heads of state of CIS member-countries.

The presidential press office said the Armenian delegation will include Prime Minister Andranik Margarian–Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian–Defense Minister Serzh Sarkisian–Head of governmental staff Manouk Topuzian–Armenian Ambassador to Belarus Souren Harutunian and other senior officials.

The sessions of CIS member countries’ defense and foreign ministers will be held ahead of the heads of states session. On May 31–just one day before the opening of the CIS summit–the presidents of Russia–Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet in an attempt to find a mutually acceptable peace formula for the delayed Karabakh conflict.

On June 1–leaders of the CIS countries are supposed to discuss issues related to economy–terrorism and organized crime. The leaders will also submit written information on the activities of their governmen’s concerning the formation of a free trade zone.

On the sidelines of the summit–the leaders of Armenia–Azerbaijan–Georgia and Russia will have a meeting to focus on regional issues and sign a joint declaration.. The Armenian delegation will fly back on June 1.
