Karekin II Holds Pontifical Liturgy in Central Park

NEW YORK–His Holiness Karekin II–Catholicos of All Armenia’s–presided over unprecedented outdoor ceremonies held in the Central Park–New York on May 26-27.

Close to 1500 participants–personally led by His Holiness–attended a re-dedication service held by His Holiness in Central Park on Saturday–as an expression of love and loyalty to the Christian sacred faith and the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church. On Sunday–a Pontifical Divine Liturgy was celebrated before an altar built in Central Park. Despite the rainy weather–thousands of faithful people attended the ceremonies–which included a cultural program with the participation of Armenian-American artists.

"Wherever we live–we are the sons of the same nation–of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Wherever we are–let us remain loyal to our national sanctities–by which is conditioned our value as a human being and as Armenian. Let us pray–that the 1700th anniversary be a national-Christian beginning in our life–which has no end," said His Holiness in his message delivered during the Liturgy.

Ambassador of Armenia to the US Arman Kirakossian–Ambassador Movses Abelian–Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations–as well as representatives of Sister Churches–and state and municipal authorities of New York attended the ceremony. In the evening–a Gala Banquet in honor of his Holiness was hosted in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
