Khachatrian Expelled From People’s Party

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Board of the People’s Party of Armenia made a decision to expel Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian from the party. They have also decided to demote Vice-Speaker Gagik Aslanian from the party’s Political Council–and to relieve him of his position as Board Secretary. The head of the PPA’s press-service Rusan Khachatrian said that Aslanian still remains a Board member and leader of the party’s chapter in Yerevan’s Center district.

The PPA Board also intends to condemn a statement made by a group of deputies representing the PPA in Parliament. PPA representative Stepan Demirchian spoke against the expulsion of the authors of the aforementioned statement–pointing out that this is a matter of these members’ conscience.

One of the authors Manvel Aslanian has already resigned from the party. However–Gagik Aslanian–has no intention of resigning from the party.

Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Gagik Aslanian–deputies Gagik Voskanian–Vanya Hovhannissian and Samson Sargssian are no longer members of the People’s Party of Armenia (PPA). They resigned from–the party on July 23.
