Javakhk Pays Tribute to Jivani

AKHALKALAK–Georgia (Armenpress)–Javakhk paid tribute to famous Armenian bard and prominent peoples’ singer Jivani (Serob Stepani Levonian–1846-1909)–who was born in the village of Kartsakh of Javakhk.

Jivani’s 155th birthday was celebrated within the frameworks of Yerevan Cultural Days in Akhalkalak’s House of Culture with participants from Yerevan–Tbilisi–Gyumri and Vanadzor. The Yerevan Delegation was warmly met at the gates of the city by Gigla Baramidze–the representative of the Georgian President as well as other Georgian officials.

During the celebration Georgian officials noted that Jivani has greatly contributed–both with his personality and his work–to the traditional relations between Armenia’s and the Georgians.

Yerevan Mayor and delegation chairman Robert Nazaretian also spoke about Jivani–followed by General Gurgen Dalibaltian–the adviser to Armenian President on military issues–writer Zori Balaian and others.

Gigla Baramidze stressed the importance of the relations of the two neighboring countries. On behalf of Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze he expressed gratitude to Yerevan Delegation pointing out that such meetings strengthen the brotherhood of both countries.
