Another Call for Clarification of Government Stance

YEREVAN–In the July 28 edition of the Golos Armenii Russian-language newspaper–chairman of the parliamentary commission on defense–national security and internal affairs called on Armenia’s foreign ministry to clarify its position on the so-called Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission.

Parliamentary Commission chairman Vahan Hovanessian–who is also member of the Armenian Revolutionary Bureau–called for the clarification–citing foreign minister Vartan Oskanian’s statemen’s–in which the top diplomat said he was aware of the creation of the commission and supported its mission.

Hovanessian called into question whether the Armenian foreign ministry had devised its own strategy for Armenian-Turkish relations.

Hovanessian added that if–as the foreign minister has stated–the Armenian government is not taking part in the "reconciliation" commission’s discussions–then that alone attests to a lack of a general strategy regarding Armenian-Turkish relations.

The parliamentary leader–once again–stressed the imperative of a clear articulation–by Oskanian himself–that the government does not support the "reconciliation" commission.
