209 Graduate from Military Academy

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy held commencement ceremonies Saturday–at which time 209 new cadets graduated and entered the ran’s of the Armenian Armed Forces’ Corps of Officers.

The ceremony served as a reminder that despite difficult socio-economic times in Armenia–the Armed Forces still remains a vital and crucial part of life in that reality.

Only one cadet–who did not pass the rigorous physical fitness part of the examination–was left off the graduating the list–while the remaining 209 will begin their tours of duty.

In his presentation–Armenia’s defense minister Serj Sarkissian congratulated the new graduates and wished them luck in the new leadership roles they will be taking within the Army.

"Remember that you must continue the legacy of the Armenian Armed Forces and you are privileged to carry through what your predecessors have started," said Sarkissian in his emotional speech–which had obvious undertones of service for the homeland.

The defense minister handed the cadets their diplomas and praised the director of the academy Stepan Mirzoyan for his role in providing a high-caliber military training and education.

During the ceremony–Sarkissian also bestowed military honors upon Mirzoyan for his leadership and accomplishmen’s.

On behalf of the graduates’ parents–former deputy defense minister Astvadzatour Petrossian also thanked Mirzoyan and the entire faculty and staff of the academy–emphasizing the academy’s role in the strengthening of the Armed Forces.

Also attending the ceremonies were Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Prime Minister Anoushavan Danielian and the top military brass of Armenia.
