Karabakh Foreign Minister Meets Reporters

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Karabakh Foreign Minister Naira Melkoumian welcomed the participants from the meeting of press-club representatives of Stepanakert–Yerevan–and Baku–which took place on July 27-29.

Greeting the journalists–Naira Melkoumian noted the significance of the dialogue between the participants–which–according to her–not only the authorities but also the citizens of the countries were interested in. The Minister emphasized that the cooperation of the journalists in forming public opinion was necessary for the settlement.

Speaking about the prospects of a peaceful settlement to the conflict–Naira Melkoumian noted that progress in the negotiations was possible if present conditions are taken into account. The Head of the Karabakh Foreign Office stated that Nagorno-Karabakh had formed its statehood without anybody’s help and did not see reasons for denying its sovereignty. "We proclaimed our independence and maintained it both in the war- and peace periods"–stated Naira Melkoumian.

A wide range of issues related to the Kocharian and Aliyev dialogue–anti-Armenian propaganda in Azerbaijan–confidence building between the parties to the conflict–repatriation of the refugees–search of the missing persons–was touched upon at the meeting.
