Toronto Armenia’s Donated $90 000 to Armenia Fund

TORONTO–The Armenian community of Toronto has allocated about $90,000 for construction of a gas supply network for the villages Aradjadzor–Tzmakahogh–Shahmasour–and Vank in Martakert region of Mountainous Karabakh. A gas pipe-line of approximately 12 km in length is currently being put in place. The construction is being carried out by Dorozhnik Ltd. of Martakert.

All of these villages are located in the southwest region of Martakert. Aradjadzor is among the ancient villages of Karabakh. On numerous occasions enemies have been thrown back by the brave people living on this rocky land. Today the 1000 people populate this village. Tzmakahogh is situated on the left bank of the Khachen River and has a population of 200 villagers. Shamasour is located in the hills on the left of the Khachen river and has a population of only 100. The village of Vank lies north of the Khachen River and is one of the most well-known ancient settlemen’s of Karabakh.

Three years ago–an Armenian businessman–Levon Hayrapetian–a native of Vank established an Armenian-Russian-American joint venture called "ATA VANK LES," which would process and export Karabakh’s lumber. The Armenian community of Toronto has contributed a great deal to the fund. The community has financed the construction of the annual water supply system of Stepanakert and the water main for five other villages.
