Javakhk Armenians Appeal to Shevardnadze

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Representatives from the six districts of Javakhk gathered Tuesday at the Georgian presidential palace in Tbilisi demanding the resignation of presidential advisor Gigla Baramitze. According to Georgian press sources the 80 individuals representing the six communities of Javakhk have also demanded a meeting president Eduard Sheverdnadze.

The protesters accused Baramitze of nepotism–saying that the presidential aide was appointing his friends and allies to posts within the Javakhk region–ignoring local residents who possess the same skills and–most importantly the knowledge about the issues facing the region.

According to the Javakhk representatives the Baramitze appointees often disregard decisions made by the local government officials and violate the rights of citizens.
