Duduk Festival in Gyumri And Yerevan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan). A festival of duduk-players took place in Gyumri on August 5 as part of the events marking the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as a state religion in Armenia.

Duduk-players Shakarik Minasian–Arsen Grigorian–the Vache Hosepian sextet–and the "Armina" duduk trio participated in the concert. There were also the best Armenian performers and groups in various music styles–Ruben Matevossian–Flora Martirossian–"Maratouk" and "Berd" dance groups–"Hayfilm"–"Bambir"–"Ardzagank" groups–Levon Malkhasian trio–and others. However–the highlight of the program was the performance by Jivan Gasparian and the prominent musicians Michael Brooke–Paul Aguillerra–Dirk Campbell–Patrick Mayer and others. The Armenian Duduk is known to heal ailing souls–and Gyumri needs spiritual healing–said Vice-Chairman of the 1700th Anniversary Celebrations Steering Commission–Khosrov Haroutiunian.

The festival lasted for over five hours and the sounds of the duduk could be heard in the streets of Gyumri until late in the evening. The following day–Yerevan’s audience had a rare chance to enjoy the duduk when Jivan Gasparian and his friends performed in the Karen Demirchian Sport & Concert Complex.
