Community Leaders Condemn “Reconciliation”

GLENDALE–Religious leaders and community organizations issued a joint announcement Thursday condemning the creation of a so-called Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission–which aims to pave the way for dialogue between Armenia and Turkey–without the discussion of the Genocide issue as its core. Below is the translated text of the announcement.

On July 9–an announcement published in Geneva–announced the creation of a "Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission," which aims to establish dialogue between the Turks and the Armenia’s–in order to improve relations between Turkey and Armenia.

Regardless of the fact–that no one could oppose the idea of a dialogue–in this case–since Turkey still has not accepted responsibility for the Armenian Genocide–as well as the fact that several Turkish members of the commission have reject that the 1915 tragedy is a Genocide–clearly signals that such an undertaking can be a detriment to the national aspirations of the Armenian people.

We still have to keep in mind that Turkey continues to blockade Armenia and maintains a biased position in the Karabakh conflict.

Any dialogue undertaken and bearing the "reconciliation" title must–first and foremost–correspond with the national interests of Armenia and Armenia’s–preconditioned by Turkey’s altruism–which includes the recognition of the historical truth–the cessation of the blockade of Armenia–as well as the adoption of an unbiased position on the Karabakh conflict.
