Negotiations for Purchase of Nuclear Fuel to Conclude Soon

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Negotiations with Russian authorities for the purchase of nuclear fuel needed to reload the Medzamor Nuclear Power Plant will end soon. Armenia’s Minister of Finance and Economy Vardan Khachatrian said that the outcome of the negotiations is likely to satisfy the Armenian government. The minister said that there are several issues being discussed during the negotiations; for example–the order of purchasing the fuel and payment for it–and the repayment of debts from previous years.

According to Khachatrian–negotiations are also being held with a number of banks within the framework of the guarantees provided to the Medzamor Plant by the Government of Armenia or the allocation of a 10 million dram credit for the purchase of fuel. The participating banks include Areximbank and HSBC–and many others.
