Conference On Minorities Will Be Held in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The conference organized by the OSCE Yerevan office which will take place in Sevan will focus on the CE Framework Convention on National Minorities and on its implementation in Armenia.

The goal of the conference is to discuss the main provisions of the Convention from the legal and practical standpoints–the government’s responsibilities toward national minorities–and in the relations between local authorities and national minorities. Head of the OSCE Yerevan office Roy Reeve hopes that the discussions on the protection of national minorities’ rights and the proposals which are advanced at the conference will be helpful to the Parliament–which is currently considering a bill on national minorities.

Reeve also advanced a proposal for the publication of an Armenian language text-book for minorities.
