Sarkissian Responds to Turkey’s Promise of Military Aid to Baku

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In his response to reports of Turkey offering military aid to Azerbaijan if hostilities resume–Armenia’s Defense Minister Serge Sarkissian said–"I have always stated that nobody has the right to make ostentatious statemen’s. Regardless of the assistance it can possibly get–no one has the right to resolve a problem by military means. If some are willing to do so–they will be punished."

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev was quoted by a Baku-based ANS news agency as saying that "in case of resumption of hostilities over Nagorno Karabagh–Turkey will provide Azerbaijan with military hardware and troops."

Abiyev made the announcement after meeting with his Turkish counterpart Cakmakogli in Ankara. Although no information was made available about the details of talks–the two ministers are believed to have discussed bilateral military cooperation and prospects for signing a relevant agreement.

According to the agreement–which is supposed to be signed by the end of the year–Turkey committed to provide every kind of military assistance to Azerbaijan to help it reach NATO standards.
