Yerevan Tbilisi Should Cooperate to Decide Fate of Abkhazian Armenia’s

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In a televised appearance in Armenia on Saturday–Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian called for closer cooperation between Georgia and Armenia in efforts to ease the plight of ethnic Armenia’s living in Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.

Recent press reports said 16 Armenia’s were killed and many were wounded after Chechen and Georgian guerrillas raided an Armenian-populated village. Oskanian said Armenia demanded that an objective and careful investigation be made into the killings.

Also Elena Tevdoradze–chairwoman of Georgian parliament human rights committee demanded that the country’s law-enforcement bodies launch a thorough investigation into killings of 14 ethnic Armenia’s in Abkhazia.

She called on the authorities to pay special attention to the investigation citing an announcement by Armen Rustamian–from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation–who had suggested that the Armenian parliament should consider sending a fact-finding mission to Abkhazia to prevent future killings and conflict among the peaceful Armenia’s living there.
