Aram I Praises Former President of Cyprus

NICOSIA–During his ecumenical trip to Cyprus–Catholicos Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia–visited former Cypriot President Spiros Kiprianou at his residence on Monday–October 22. Kiprianou was the first president which accepted the plight of the Armenian Cause and publicly recognized the Genocide. Catholicos Aram I praised Kiprianou for his actions and presented him with a commemorative certificate signifying the Armenian community’s deep gratitude and friendship toward President Kiprianou. The former president also recognized the other countries that have recognized the Genocide mentioning France’s recognition.

At the conclusion of their meeting–the Catholicos and the former president answered various journalists’ questions–where they stressed the immense friendship and the common goal of the Greeks and Armenia’s to have world peace. Representatives from the Armenian National Committee of Cyprus were also present at the meeting.

The same day–Catholicos Aram visited the Maronite Church headquarters and met with Bishop Boutros Jemayel. The Lebanese Embassy’s Consulate Samira al-Dahour invited the Catholicos and many other government officials and diplomats to dinner that same evening. The Catholicos lauded the regional understanding among Lebanon and the surrounding nations–which according to him testify to the brotherly cooperative spirit among their nations.
