Khachatrian Receives Award for Unity of Orthodox Peoples

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The International Fund of Unity of Orthodox Peoples–which operates under the patronage of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexiy II–decided to award the Armenian Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian "For his outstanding activities in strengthening unity of Orthodox people’s."

Others awarded in 2001 were Patriarch of Serbia Pavel–President of Russia Vladimir Putin–Deputy Chairman of the Lebanese Government Isama Faresi–the Orthodox European Inter-Parliamentary Forum headquartered in Athens–Greece.

The International Fund of Unity of Orthodox Peoples annually awards well-known state–religious–political–public and cultural figures–and representatives of the business world–who have made significant contributions to the spiritual and cultural unity of the people–strengthening economic and political ties between states–as well as establishing Christian morality within their own states.

According to the National Assembly Public Relations Department–the news was announced by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexiy II and the Fund’s Chairman–Doctor of Historical Sciences VA Alexeyev.

The official ceremony will take place in Moscow–on January 21–2002.
