Peaceful Settlement of Karabakh Conflict Is Not Exhausted

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict has not exhausted itself and we hope that the calls for war voiced in Azerbaijan are for domestic purposes only," Minister of Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian told reporters on Friday. He hopes that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen will manage to return "Azerbaijan to the frameworks of the Paris talks," and during their upcoming visit to the region–the minister said–serious shifts may be expected within the next month.

Regarding the waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act by the US Congress the minister said that it will not have much effect on the talks. He stated that the section will not be completely waived but it will be amended for a limited time.

The clearer the amendmen’s are formulated–further negative consequences can be averted.

Regarding the situation in Georgia–Oskanian stated that the neighboring country is keeping the internal political processes private–and Armenia is deeply concerned. "We are focusing on the situation and we are trying the prevent it from leading to political destabilization which will effect the whole region," Oskanian said.
