YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In the Ushu World Championships–which took place in Yerevan–was a disappointing tournament for the Armenian athletes who ranked in 11th place. Yerevan native Kajik Dalian became the world champion in the Sanda category. Three other athletes from Armenia took the bronze in different categories. In two previous world championships Armenia had taken the 19th and 24th places respectively.
In overall team competition China won first place with 12 gold and 1 silver medals. The Vietnamese team won second and South Korea one third place.
The President of the Ushu Federation of Armenia–Tigran–publicly expressed his disappointment–stating that everybody expected the Armenia’s to be at least in the Top 10. Chobanian attributed Armenia’s loss to unlucky draws–unfair referees–and the delay of the championship because of the September 11 attacks.
