Next CIS Interparliamentary Congress to Be Held in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG (Armenpress)–The 18th session of CIS member-countries’ Interparliamentary Congress (IPC) will be opened in Saint Petersburg on November 24. During Tuesday’s press conference–the Secretary General of IPC Mikhail Krotov said that representatives of OSCE Interparliamentary Congress–North Council–Council of Europe’s Interparliamentary Congress–European Bank of Development and Reconstruction–and many others will attend the session.

The issue of the role of IPC in the development of CIS is on the agenda of the session. The leaders of parliamentary delegations will exchange opinions concerning this issue. The draft of convention on "Democratic Elections–Suffrage and standards of Freedom in CIS Countries," will be also discussed. Krotov also said that IPC worked out the general electoral standards which will provide for democratic elections in every country of the world. These standards will be presented by the chairman of Central Electoral Commission Alexandr Veshniakov.

The main issue which will be discussed during the session will be the fight against international terrorism. An application of IPC concerning the coordination of activity of world countries’ parliamen’s in the fight against terrorism is planned to be approved. Also a number of bills will be presented during the session.
