Kocharian’s Visit to Iran Determines Fate of Relations

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"A number of documen’s that will greatly influence the realization of the of the construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipe-line and the Meghri hydro-power plant are expected to be signed during President Robert Kocharian’s upcoming visit to Iran," said Armenia’s Energy Minister–Cochairman of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission Karen Galustian during the opening of an Iranian exhibition of the energy industry on Tuesday.

According to Galustian–both projects are very significant in Armenia.

The minister said that the sides have reached an agreement to come up a feasibility report for the Meghri hydro project soon.

Galustian also pointed out the importance of continuing to develop cooperation in the electric power industry. According to him–the volume of electricity exchanges are expected to be increased after the "Agarak" high-voltage sub-station is put into service. According to the minister–the establishment of an oil refinery in Meghri is one of the most important long-term projects Armenia faces.
