Azerbaijan Sees Need for Direct Talks With Karabakh

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Representatives of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh–Chairman of the Stepanakert Press Club Gegham Baghdasarian and President Arkady Ghoukassian’s Advisor Manvel Sargsian–participated in an international conference in Berlin late last month. Karabakh was represented by a independent delegation.

According to the Armenian delegates–nothing was said in favor of Azerbaijan. Outside the official meeting–Azeri delegates confessed that Germany and other countries were trying to benefit from the Karabakh conflict and said that a direct dialogue would be more effective in finding a resolution to the conflict.

Gegham Baghdasarian told reporters no one at the conference proposed a new–clear-cut variant for settling the Karabakh conflict. Baghdasarian said that the Karabakh delegation voiced their opinion that Europe should encourage all progressive steps constant with European values in the South Caucasus.
