YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian education and science minister Levon Mkrtchian praised the role of the Armenian Apostolic Church in maintaining the Armenian culture–preservation of Armenian national values and education development throughout the centuries.
The minister stressed the need for the inclusion of religion lessons in the secondary schools curriculum–but added that the process is very difficult and requires a serious preparation.
"Religion lessons should not be mandatory and the principle of freedom of consciousness should be strictly maintained," he said.
The minister said that important and practical steps were being taken in choosing the curriculum for the religion classes and regarding possible religion teachers.
